Our profile
TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.

The Department of Social Sciences comprises the Institute of Sociology (ISO), the Social Research Center Dortmund (sfs) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Didactics (IDIF).

Profile of the professorship
The professorship represents the field of General Sociology in research and teaching and further develops this with international visibility. In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University. Expected are the application for and implementation of competitively acquired third-party funded projects and the willingness to help shape and further develop the profile of the Institute of Sociology and the Department of Social Sciences and their international positioning. The professorship is committed to explicitly promote early career researchers and participates appropriately in the teaching activities of the department.

Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You have a well-defined sociological research profile with broad expertise in sociological theory, and perform empirical research (preferably using qualitative methods). You have demonstrated your research reputation in the field covered by the professorship through continuous and relevant publications (also international ones) in recognized venues, including those with peer-review. International visibility beyond this is desirable. Furthermore, you have successfully and independently acquired competitively awarded third-party funding. Additionally, you display the potential for teaching excellence and are willing to hold courses in English. Experience in teaching general sociology/introduction to sociology is desirable. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG) apply.
