The Center for Research on Education and School Development (IFS) is a leading institution in school and educational research. The Center has a significant impact on the profile area Educational and Labor Worlds of Tomorrow at TU Dortmund University. The position is a bridge professorship to the Department of Statistics of TU Dortmund University — the only statistics department in Germany. In the event of an appointment, a cooptation by the Department of Statistics should take place.

Profile of the professorship
Your research focuses on the combination of educational research and data science with a focus on one or more of the following areas in the application and (further) development of quantitative-statistical methods (i) for longitudinal data in the educational context, (ii) of machine learning for the analysis of questions in educational science and (iii) for the analysis of complex data structures with references to educational science (e.g., in the context of large-scale assessments, learning analytics, random effects models in educational research, etc.) and you develop it further with international visibility. In doing so, you participate in research cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University and are committed to promoting early career researchers. An appropriate participation in the teaching activities of the department is expected.

Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. Proven expertise in quantitative statistical or datascience methodologies and in at least one area of educational research in a school context is required. You have demonstrated your research excellence in the field covered by the professorship through continuous international (and national, if applicable) relevant publications in recognized peer-reviewed venues, especially in the recent years, and have experience in acquiring third-party funds. For the W3 professorship, continuous international publication achievements at a high level, especially in the last 5 years, are expected. Additionally, for the W3 professorship you can already demonstrate success in the independent competitive acquisition of third-party funding and are characterized by your integration into international research networks. All applicants have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Section 36 and 37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) apply.
