Comprising 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences, TU Dortmund University is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.
The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences is one of the largest research and teaching institutions in Europe addressing the inclusion of people with disabilities, impairments and social disadvantages. It has established three research clusters: “Education, Schooling, Inclusion” – “Work, Inclusion, Health” – “Technology, Inclusion, Participation”. As a result of numerous university and non-university collaborations, the Department is embedded in an attractive research environment.
Profile of the professorship
You represent the field of Intelligent Systems for Inclusion and Participation in research and develop it further at an international top level. You are particularly concerned with the application of AI methods and the design of intelligent environments (Pervasive Intelligent Environments) in the context of accessibility and participation. Your research focus includes at least one of the following research areas: development and application of AI for assistive systems (e.g., assistance systems for impairments in perception, learning, or communication), integration of AI-based tools into contexts of rehabilitation pedagogics and rehabilitation sciences (e.g. vocational rehabilitation, education, health), or the design and implementation of recommender systems (e.g. for health data). In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University. In particular, you are actively involved in the research cluster Technology, Inclusion, and Participation (TIP), collaborate with universities within the University Alliance Ruhr, and contribute to the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. You are committed to promoting early career researchers and are responsible for the subject of Intelligent Systems in the context of inclusion and participation in teaching within the degree programs offered by the department.
Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You have demonstrated your research excellence in the field of the professorship through continuous international publications in recognized peer-reviewed venues, especially in recent years, and you have independently secured competitive third-party funding. Solid knowledge in the development and adaptation of foundational models for specific application contexts is required. Additionally, involvement in international research networks and a visible presence in the scientific community are expected. You have the potential for teaching excellence. Interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly with professionals from rehabilitation sciences, is desirable. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG) apply.
