Professorship (W2) AI and Multimedia in Art Practice
Our profile
TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer. The Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Art and Material Culture at the Department of Arts and Sports Sciences at TU Dortmund University is characterized by a productive collaboration of arts and science, also in teacher training.

Profile of the professorship
You represent the field of "AI and Multimedia in Art Practice" in research and teaching, further developing it with international visibility, ideally in the context of contemporary aesthetic and socio-political discourses. In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University, preferably with the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. You are committed to promoting early career researchers. In teaching, you are responsible for your subject and participate appropriately in the department's teaching activities, especially in teacher training.

Your qualifications
You are proven in the field "AI and Multimedia in Art Practice" by outstanding artistic achievements, in particular by outstanding and independent artistic research and practice, on a national and international level, and can demonstrate at least five years of creative activity, including at least three years outside of academia. The university is particularly interested in applicants with a broad aesthetic and artistic approach in multimedia who engage with sound, music, auditory media, musical structures, and/or visually focused formats and combine these innovatively with artificial intelligence techniques. A prerequisite is several years of presence in the professional community through cooperation and publications with internationally active public institutions such as art academies, museums, art associations, public exhibition centers or concert houses, or also in renowned private galleries or collector museums. Additionally, you have the potential for teaching excellence and consulting expertise in the contemporary field of AI, arts, and multimedia. In the medium term, you are willing to teach in German. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, NRW HG) apply.
