The Ruhr area, one of Europe's largest metropolitan regions, offers attractive career opportunities for excellent scientists and scholars from around the world. In 2021, Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen established the Research Alliance Ruhr to bundle their cutting-edge international research on the most urgent challenges facing humankind. There are four research centers and a college. This is just the latest chapter in our long-standing collaboration as the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), a community of 14,000 researchers and 120,000 students in the heart of Germany.

As part of the Research Alliance Ruhr, the Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems is seeking to fill the following position at the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University as soon as possible:
Professorship (W1) with W2 tenure track for Colloidal Nanostructures
Your Responsibilities
The person selected to hold the new professorship will specialize in interdisciplinary research and teaching at the interface between inorganic chemistry, experimental condensed-matter physics and materials science. The research topics will focus on the chemical synthesis and physical characterization of colloidal nanostructures for optoelectronic applications (for example perovskite nanocrystals, colloidal quantum dots or nanoplatelets), their scalable fabrication and their integration into systems relevant for the future energy system.

The experimental research in the Department of Physics at TU Dortmund University has a strong focus on the development of advanced spectroscopic methods. The appointment is also intended to strengthen these activities, for example by incorporating spectroscopic methods into optimized chemical synthesis processes. The professorship will be embedded in the Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems. Thus, a great willingness to actively participate in the Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems by contributing to its research agenda is mandatory. The successful candidate is expected to represent experimental physics and to contribute to English-taught courses in the Master's degree programs. Proficiency in teaching in English or German and willingness to teach in both languages in the medium term (after three years at the latest) is mandatory.

The appointment is initially for a period of three years as a temporary civil servant. In the course of the third year, this status will be reviewed and may be extended for a further three years depending on performance. At the end of this six-year assistant professorship at the latest, the tenure track will lead to continued employment as a tenured W2 professor, provided that the necessary aptitude, competence and academic performance have been demonstrated and that the legal requirements pertaining to § 38 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) are met. The teaching load comprises four semester hours per week.

Your Qualifications
The professorship should be filled by a researcher who has obtained a doctorate with above-average success and demonstrates significant research expertise and success in the field of the professorship. International publications in internationally recognised journals, including those with peer-review, are mandatory and first experiences in the successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding projects are desirable. The willingness and ability to participate in research networks and coordinated research programs within and outside TU Dortmund and the willingness to acquire competitive third-party funds are required. The ability to cooperate with other researchers and the willingness to independently initiate and guide research proposals are required. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will complete your profile. In addition, the recruitment criteria of Sections 36 and 37 HG NRW apply.

Attractive Environment
The Research Center FEMS investigates novel materials and their integration into systems for transforming and developing the energy system of the future. It is linked to all three member universities of the University Alliance Ruhr. We offer an excellent scientific environment and attractive opportunities for collaboration with renowned international, national, and regional partners. The professorship advertised here will be closely associated with the departments of chemistry and physics at TU Dortmund University.
Research Alliance Ruhr
The Research Alliance Ruhr is a joint undertaking of the three major universities in the Ruhr area and was initiated by the Ruhr Conference. The four research centers will focus on "One Health Ruhr," "Chemical Sciences and Sustainability," "Trustworthy Data Science and Security," and "Future Energy Materials and Systems.” In addition, the Research Alliance Ruhr is establishing a "College for Social Sciences and Humanities".

The Research Alliance Ruhr will appoint up to 50 research professors in the next few years and also offer numerous positions for research assistants. Join us now to create innovations for the world of tomorrow in Europe's densest university landscape, where you can find a wide range of scientific and industrial partners right on the doorstep.
